Nintendo of America's marketing campaigns for the Holiday season take various forms, and one seems to be a partnership to promote one of the Wii U's biggest hits. This will be through "Clash of Karts: Mario Kart 8", a show that'll be broadcast on Disney XD this coming weekend.
In essence it's going to be an hour long show in which eight young gamers team up with YouTube celebrities in a multi-round competition. The YouTube celebs in question will include Strawburry 17, Andre (Black Nerd Comedy), AtomicMari and SethBling.
It's all going down on 5th December at 8pm (whether you're Pacific or Eastern), which seems a tad late if Nintendo was hoping to target particularly young gamers. On the flipside it could be a good peak-time slot to get the attention of some older kids, so we won't second-guess that too much.
In any case it's encouraging to see Nintendo titles getting shown off on some major TV channels in the US; will you be tuning in?

I wish they had shows like the NWC that was eventually show on Disney XD more often. My wife even enjoyed watching those and she's a bit more of a casual gamer (likes Kart, Smash, Spaltoon, and some others though).

Well this is nice to see. Especially with Disney having it's own line of games it could see Nintendo as a competitor and eschew it. Nintendo even has that amiibo cross marketing promotion w/ Skyladners.
And I disagree w/ the article disliking the starting time. 8PM in the US is still considered "Family tv time" even though I doubt anybody has used that expression in about 20 years since the Huxtables and Keatons were on. But 8PM on a Saturday night before Christmas seems like the right place for it.
Hopefully every commercial break during the program will be full of all of those Ntinedo Christmas commercials. Maybe even XCX.
I'd watch it, but I don't think we get the Disney big grin channel.
I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't also promote their games on Espn or get a big time sports player to help promote their games. Like Stephen Curry with PS.
Cool!
Lol, it will be cool.
Interesting. But why Mario Kart 8? Nintendo hasn't made much mention of the game in awhile.
It'd be neat if they announced DLC there but I can't think of a reason why they'd want to push more MK8 units when they have Splatoon and Smash that are more recent.
Well, Andre will be there, so it'll be worth it!
Speaking of Nintendo advertising, I heard what is quite possibly the rarest gaming-related thing on Earth the other day - a Nintendo advert, on popular commercial radio... in the UK! Since when does that ever happen?!
I know Disney XD is on in the UK, but is this same programme on?
I miss Gamesmaster.
@Spin MK8 is Wii U's best selling game with a greater than 50% attachment ratio, furthermore Nintendo sells a Wii U + MK8 bundle, so it is interested in promoting it. The only strange thing is that, as far as we know, Nintendo stopped supporting it last May.
@Mister_Wu I can understand that but I also would think that after a certain amount of units sold it wouldn't be very profitable to continue pushing it. But I dunno much about them economics.
@Mister_Wu That is the key thing here, MK8 is the Wii U's best selling game but promoting it won't do much unless there was new content coming. Smash on the other hand has a large Direct in December for DLC as well as Splatoon having at least 6 weapons and 1 map left to be unlocked.
I would watch it, but I don't have Disney XD.
@Grumblevolcano <Tin foil hat> Remember that The Game Awards 2015 are in the 3rd of December, before this show, and that Nintendo will make announcements at the Awards...</Tin Foil Hat>
Don't have Disney XD, so this doesn't really matter to me. Still, this is nice. Also, Andre is probably the only Youtuber I knowheard of on that list.
I miss "Nick Arcade" now.
@chiefeagle02 I miss Secrets of the Hidden Temple...
I saw the commercial for it. Looks pretty dumb to me. But whatever. It's made to promote the Wii U. If it were Smash, I think it would be way more fun.
We got rid of cable a while back so I can't watch it unfortunately. I'd especially love to see it if they had PBG or JonTron on it though.
I don't have a problem with Nintendo promoting some of their games on Disney's kids networks. However, they're not the only place they should be having these events on. I'm not trying to say that this makes Nintendo look like a silly kid company, but they should branch out to other promotion outlet than just Kids channels.
Sounds cool, however I don't have cable Lel
@AshFoxX Green Monkeys for life!
