Wow the Wii U VC looks so blurred. I played Kirby on Wii VC I don't know if it's any different than Wii U.
poor Wii U VC, getting schooled ;(
i have felt the Wii U version of Mario Golf 64 is also horribly displayed
(even worse than the Wii VC version) and continue to play the Wii VC vers due to the disparity. heres hoping NX can emulate like a MF-er.
but its not worst case, the game does still exist on VC(just the shadow version
All Nintendo has to do is offer an RGB output setting in their VC menu for NES titles. But, you know, effort.
Mario Ultra Tennis 5/10?
Yeah we all saw that coming.
Shame the NES games look so dull (colour wise), it does take away slightly from finding them appealing to look at. Not that it's stopped me buying loads.
Does it even matter if an NES game is played in hd or not? I mean, in the end it's still a bunch of cubes.
@Kirby_Fan_DL3 Too young to appreciate pixel art I see.
That music! It's from Scrap Brain Zone on Sonic The Hedgehog - Master System and Game Gear version. Love that music and love that game, thank you.
@Kirby_Fan_DL3 A lot of people complain about input lag and image clarity when using an HDTV, this mod fixes that.
Good, I guess next they'll try to make Atari 2600 games look good in HD too cuz you know everybody is too blind to see pixels nowadays.
@TeeJay When did he say ANYTHING about hating retro graphics?
+1 for calling him Dr Robotnik. This Eggman crap is annoying.
I think the original Wii VC does not get enough credit for its picture quality especially playing through some component cables. N64 games especially looks nice, so nice in fact that I am only a few games short of owning all the Wii VC N64 games.
Wii U VC doesnt look that bad. NO WAY
@97alexk I'm afraid it does look that bad on the GamePad, the colours on the NES and N64 VC are very dull and muted. It's mostly fine on TV (although the blur filter is still present) but on the GamePad it's both dark and blurry. I don't know why Nintendo still haven't fixed it.
look at the retron 5...it so awesome... im so glad i got mine..
@sleepinglion I have trouble believing it would take all that much effort. They test these games thoroughly anyways. Take another 5 hours to play with settings to make it look as good as possible.
@ocarinaoftime Yeah but that console is crap, games get corrupted during normal gameplay, it doesn't support most homebrew and flash cartridge games, the updates for the system is stupid sometimes, they make Sonic 3 and Knuckles work with one firmware update and then make another one which takes that feature away and then had one again just to fix that and eventually ruin another. Because it had no RCA support, you can't play it on a CRT TV which a lot of light gun and accessories games required.
The thing doesn't support Kaillera or any sort of network play so you can't play retro online with any other players around the world compare to other emulator which you could. Also last but not least, the controller that came with the system sucks so much, it tends to lag, the stick is unreliable to use and the buttons are just too clicky to play with not to mention even though the thing allows support for original controllers, about 70% of my original controllers doesn't work with the system even though they work perfectly fine on my real systems. A shame and a big ripoff really.
@BulkSlash No its not, i have this game, and played it on the gamepad, and its much brighter
@retro_player_22 mine is just fine..it plays everything i put in it..i dont have any home brew carts but it plays all 125 plus snes games i have and all 130 nes games i have plus all 30 gba games i have and all 35 genesis games i have plus the 15 gameboy games i have..im happy with mine..it dont play my flash cart i have...i had super retro trio and the nes side of it stinks..i recomend the retron 5..im sorry u had a bad time with yours...
@97alexk I'm sorry but it's much duller on the GamePad, I've taken some pictures for comparison. Here's the GamePad (on full brightness): https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CVDBefFWIAAZqLV.jpg:large
Here's the TV:

And this is my AV Famicom:

The colours on the GamePad are horribly muddy and dull and the blur filter just makes things worse. It's not bad on the TV aside from the blurring.
re: Retron 5
I had one for a while. The thing that bothered me is SNES seemed to have input lag. After I had it and did a review their was a site that said they tested and SNES had 60ms input lag while other systems had 20ms. 20ms isn't bad as that is what the XRGB adds. 60ms added to most tvs 40ms puts you at 100ms which is pretty bad and was noticeable to me in my setup. I have an xrgb which I rarely notice any lag on, which is my compare point since I don't have another way of testing.
I never had any problems with controllers working. You may have a bad port and could consider an RMA. I had an issue where a couple of cartridge slots stopped working (after very light use) and had to RMA. Then I decided to sell. I have all the original systems and just didn't think the R5 was worth it. I use the XRGB primarily although I did use my CRT to beat Mike Tyson recently so I have other options. For games that I feel I need "save states" I either buy the Wii U version or if not available will emulate.
I feel like the R5 just isn't really good enough or convenient enough to beat other options. The price increase certainly didn't help it.
With the XRGB I think it looks incredible. So I won't be buying an HDMI NES or N64 for maybe a slightly better picture. I'm skeptical it will work as well as expected too because it's been delayed forever. But without any direct input I'll wait for judgment.
@TeeJay it's not that I think pixel art is bad, it's just that I don't think you can make an NES game look better than it already does. Because it's basically just pixel art, turning it HD would just make it look sharper, which honestly doesn't look much different (to me at least). I don't remember if you actually have to pay for it, but if you do then I think it's pretty pointless.
