Nintendo's Digital Event during E3 2015 had its ups and downs, with some reveals sparking discontent among many watching Nintendo fans. Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival was a reveal that caused some frustration - it was a Wii U game in the franchise, just not the one we were expecting.
In our view amiibo Festival didn't succeed in its goal to avoid being a thoroughly average spin-off, but fans naturally still hope for the Animal Crossing Wii U game of their dreams. Some do so more than others, and TheBitBlock posted a brilliant video this past weekend talking about a full instalment for the series on Wii U. There are detailed - and rather pretty - animations and mock-ups for a town, a nice twist on transport and even details on the UI and related features.
It's an impressive effort, check it out below.
In truth we think the odds of a full release in the series now coming to Wii U are close to nil, as Nintendo will no doubt divert most of its development efforts - especially on tentpole franchises - into the NX generation. We'd love to see some of these ideas on that next-gen hardware, however.
Is this an Animal Crossing home console game you'd love to play? Let us know.

This truly would be delightful.
One can wish. On the NX perhaps, or maybe the Wii U since Nintendo said they would still "support" the console after the NX gets released
This would be amazing
Ahh sweet sweet Animal Crossing... I'VE ALWAYS HATED IT
I kid. But this guy- he really thought this out, simply amazing presentation. Really blows me away, you know he is really passionate about the series and therefore understands what could be improved on and adds his on little innovations. Love the letter idea on the gamepad.
Looks great, would love to see something like this come true.
The toolbox in particular needs to happen. I really enjoyed his vision for the series.
Since the NX will supposedly have chips that are on par with PS4 & Xbox One, I'd love to see them pull out all the stops for the next Animal Crossing. Nintendo should hire this kid first of all, because he seems to have a ton of wonderful ideas. Second, with the hardware, they could make the villages waaaayyyyy bigger. Like 30-50 villagers max, the ability to customize your town from the ground up and be able to use grids to place objects to make it easier. I'd like for them to also bring back the island; make it huge as well and have your own personal shack, like in the very first, but also with the other activities that they implemented in the newest entry. Then finally, bring back the city too, and make it actually have some scale to it, make it grand!!! I wanna be able to shop, explore ally ways, go into villager's apartments that live in the city, make friends with villagers in the city. That'd be one hell of an Animal Crossing title if all that were possible in one game!
As irritated as I am that the Wii U probably won't get an Animal Crossing, I'm already excited about getting Animal Crossing NX early in the NX life cycle. Who knows, maybe they'll make the next game for the NX and Wii U. It's not like Animal Crossing games are power-intensive.
In response to this video, the guy's vision of Animal Crossing U looks pretty awesome. I didn't see anything I didn't like. Bring back some old stuff like the island and maybe the city, and add a bunch of new fish, bugs, fossils, etc, and I'd put a few hundred hours into that.
Heh, can't say I'm not impressed. Watching the thing(I put the thing on mute). I'm guessing this has been on the works predating e3 2015.
This is so amazing! A lot of work must have gone into making this video, and all of the details they added were both creative and very plausible. It's too bad our chances of an actual Animal Crossing on the Wii U is pretty slim now with the NX coming out soon, but if what Nintendo said was true about making games for the Wii U along side the NX (since it's supposedly on it's own tier), there's still a chance we could get something like this.
I've loved animal crossing from day 1 and still play new leaf daily but even I tried amiibo festival for 10 minutes then sold it on ebay right away in disgust. Happy home designer only marginally better..but I downloaded that so can't sell it on.
Mario Tennis is very good tho..glad I gave that one a chance.
I loved the video so much i wished it was being released , and i also love what he did with the tool box , i also loved the hot air balloons i could go on lol .
The NX generation of Nintendo hardware is going to have portable and console versions of the games much more closely tied as they will be easier to share code/design/assets. We know this much for certain. It may even be one piece of hardware that does both.
So, it makes real sense to delay the next proper Animal Crossing to the next generation hardware for that reason alone and also explains the two interesting (if lackluster and disappointing) side games we got for our current hardware.
An Animal Crossing like this could still happen on NX depending on what that is.
Awesome stuff
I would buy his vision in an instant. Awesome. Nintendo - hire this guy.
@Yorumi because they already printed 100x more money than this would've made with New Leaf only a couple of years ago maybe? I hate to be the pessimist in this scenario, especially since Josh is passionate about this and it does undoubtably look amazing, but it's the truth the way I see it. I said it in the thread about this, this is best as a handheld franchise. Nintendo were hit from pillar to post with City Folk and people demanded a great handheld game, they gave them it with New Leaf and now this is the response?
Animal Crossing is far from a neglected franchise for Nintendo, and I'm sure they looked at New Leaf's 15 million (hell even Happy Home Designer's 1 million in Japan alone) units sold and wondered "if only we could Nintendo better, oh I know Wii U!". Sarcasm in case it wasn't obvious. 99.9% the next Animal Crossing is already in development for the handheld portion of the NX, if that's what it turns out to be.
Once again though credit to thebitblock, great vid, great ideas.
The next animal crossing.
1.I think we need roads and every villager will have a car.I also think having races too also a special zone where you can take a plane.
2.Let us take villager to the next level
A.full customization of you body and hair like sims 3 but better.
3.have the mayor thing but add a town council with elected members.also the village will have about 50-75 max.
4.keep city projects but have them better
5.the town will have a grid system where they will have pre set lots
6.they will have a nature preserve in each town.
7.new content can be added via updates or DLC.
8.the climate choices on the town.
9.the town shops can be arranged to meet your mind.
So there you have it.
Name:town life.
@Yorumi "cause anything is going to sell better on the 3DS" that's not necessarily true. The comparisons between the Wii U and 3DS are difficult to make because the user base is so vastly different. If you compare say the more even Wii and DS from last gen I'm sure you'll find some similar games that sold better on Wii than DS. NSMBW sold more than NSMBDS I believe? And I'm 99.9% sure that Mario Kart Wii sold more than DS. Twilight Princess is the highest selling Zelda game, whilst no one cares about the handheld games and they sold poorly. I could go on for longer but I think you get the point.
You asked the question and I believe I gave you what would be Nintendo's answer, which was New Leaf and a great answer at that. If you need a handheld and a home conolse version of Mario, Zelda, Smash, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Smash. Mario Kart etc released every 2 years in order for Nintendo to meet your expectations I think you need to get out of Cloud-Cuckoo-Land and back to reality otherwise you're always going to be disappointed and you'll become very cynical and whinny. Or is it too late for that?
@Yorumi awwwwww and here I was about to give you my friend code so you could come to my town in New Leaf. We could've had so much fun!
You know it's sad when Nintendo is outdone by a fan.
The video is fantastic, some REALLY amazing ideas, that will probably never see the light of day XD
I hope it's not a problem, but I would just like to take a moment to say something quite sad. Yesterday, at college I had a free session before I started, so I went to the edit suite to work on my short film for my Media Studies coursework. During that session, the teacher, whose also mine for another subject, asked if I would help out another lad, who was having an issue with something related to his coursework at the time. Only took about five minutes to fix before I went back to doing what I was doing. He seemed like a pretty cool lad. He was a huge Nintendo fan, and we talked briefly about what we were planning to get for Christmas (he was getting Xenoblade Chronicles X, whilst I said I was finally getting The Wonderful 101).
Today, I attend my Film Studies lesson about 3 hours ago, my teacher (the one from yesterday), was over 20 minutes late. He came in, apologising for his delay and put on the film we were analysing, only about twenty seconds pass when he stops it. He apologies again, before explaining why he was late. That one of his students, the one I helped yesterday, had an accident this morning, falling onto the rails and being killed.
At this time, I'm not allowed to say his name as it hasn't been officially released yet.
I wanted to share this story here, because I really felt compelled to talk about it, despite it's complete irrelevance.
The hardest thing for me to think about is how few people know it's him, who is now not with us. Friends, family. I don't exactly consider myself to be either, so I do wonder why.
Instead, I want to take the moment to say that despite only knowing him for 5 minutes at most, he seemed genuinely cool and if that's all it took for him to leave an impact on my life, that I can't even begin to imagine the pain his family and friends are feeling. So my deepest sympathy to them.
Thank you. I know it's completely irrelevant, but I needed to be able to share.
Nintendo should hire this guy to help work on the next animal crossing. Though... it will probably be more likely that Nintendo will take his ideas instead of get him on the team.
@TheLastLugia
While Animal Crossing has always sold better on handhelds, it's no slouch on consoles. From the first game it has been a multi-million seller, outselling various other franchises like Kirby, Metroid, and even Zelda (City Folk beat Skyward Sword). So while Nintendo would obviously be interested in making another handheld Animal Crossing, they'd also be interested in making another console Animal Crossing, because after games with Mario in them, it's one of their best selling franchises on either format.
Instead of wasting money on a horrible abomination called Amiibo Festival I will just occasionally watch this with a longing look on my face.
For one, everything in this video seemed rather dull upgrades to AC, aside from the graphics and camera.
Here's my improvements:
I liked working towards improving your town and getting rich on AC, but if you can just do whatever you want, it really takes away the whole point of it. Sure there can be a creative mode, but I like my good old fashioned AC. So these are my improvements on for the NX version.
Look very neat indeed but will prob be on the NX now tho.
@MrGuinea The toolbox really wouldn't cause any more clicks. There will most likely be a way to quick equip tools, like how you can press left or right on the D-Pad to switch tools in New Leaf, meaning you don't even have to access the inventory at all anyway. The only annoying part about tools is how much space they take up in the inventory. A space on the side could be a good idea, but it might take up too much of the screen. Besides, If they were to add more slots like that, I would rather just have a larger general inventory. Making it specific to tools would be a bit pointless.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is working on a home console (Wii U or NX) Animal Crossing as we type since it takes year(s) to make a good game. I just hope it use some of the ideas in the video.
Also AC amiibo support would be a huge plus, especially for the people who lvl up their amiibo in amiibo Festival.
If this guy created all this then he has serious skills. Well done. It'll be interesting to see what else he comes up with.
@Nik-Davies sniffle don't mention it dude.
Somebody pitch this video to Nintendo, either with Twitter, Facebook, menacing letter made out of magazine cutouts, you name it, just do it
Impressive work by Josh Thomas. Can't stand the guy though. Insults others for having a different opinion than him, insults other Youtubers just because they're more popular, presents his opinions as if they're gospel (to the point that he desperately wanted Nintendo to sell paid Splatoon content JUST to prove his opinion that they should as fact), etc.
I would love a New Animal Crossing. After seeing the Villagers video for smash and seeing the level of detail in that village had me hopeful that a new Wii U version would look that good. I though that was reasonable after the mk8 smash trailer.
Oh well.
I agree with 'IceClimbers', Josh Thomas wins my award for Biggest douche of 2015. New Leaf still is the perfect Animal Crossing game. I know it and Nintendo know's it. I honestly don't think Animal Crossing should be a Wii U or NX game. It's just works better on DS and 3DS and I really hope the next game in the series is on Nintendo's next handheld. Unfortunately, it will probably be on mobile which I still have no interest in.
That video looks impressive. I hope Nintendo realise how many people still want a console main series Animal Crossing game after the backlash Amiibo Festival got.
Well, I can't do anything but give huge kudos to Josh. This is very impressive, and better than anything I've seen Nintendo do with Animal Crossing thus far.
@Yorumi
"Why does everyone else do nintendo better than nintendo? They could have printed money with a game like this, instead we got amiibo scam."
This was essentially what I was going to write. I agree 100%. This is exactly what I was hoping Nintendo was going to do when it was largely believed Animal Crossing was coming on Wii U. Even something as simple as accessing items wouldn't have been as cumbersome using the Gamepad. Writing letters was clever in this video as well.
But yes, here we are, with a pointless spin-off that no one wanted. I guess some people will like it, but I find that it was pretty much a wasted effort, further hindered by pointless amiibo integration.
What a shame that this video will likely be better received than what Nintendo put out at E3.
@Yeahman I'm presuming it's just a taster, and that the full town would of course be much bigger.
I'm sad that this isn't real.
Iwata, even in your lack of presence in this world now, please! Please infulence the AC team to make this!
@MoonKnight7 To be completely fair, pretty much all of ND Cube's efforts are wastes. They have a horrible track record. Yes, they're responsible for the car mechanic in the recent Mario Party games and are the ones who made amiibo Festival.
If this was real I'd probably do a couple backflips and buy on day 1
This looks really, really good!
I could see the NX launching with a new AC. They need a strong launch desperately
@JesWood13 Just to clarify one thing: TheBitBlock or his real name: Josh Thomas, is definitely not a kid
@TheAceofMystery Ight?
@JesWood13 Mhm, you should go subscribe to him on youtube. He's great!
@TheAceofMystery Yeah, he seems cool. Nintendo should hire him on, he is solid ideas. He may or may not have coding experience, but he could help with the creative direction.
@JesWood13 He does have a reputation for being a complainer and downer though. He said the last good Nintendo Direct was in 2013, and that Ryu and Cloud in Smash are just "Generic Anime Characters." Great guy, but sure a debby downer
@TheAceofMystery ehh, that's kinda lame haha. That's not the kind of attitude I'd want from a team member. I do like his ideas though.
Animal Crossing has traditionally been one of my least favorite Nintendo series... and yet even I'd play that.
Nintendo, hire this man.
This should of been at E3!!!😭
Oh man, this would be soo great!
How is this so good? Is he a graphics designer?
All I want in another AC is the option to have days go by manually.
This is cool! Would be neat!
@Nik-Davies I really wanna cry right now 😢 I'm serious, thank you for sharing this...
@Yorumi No they wouldnt, don't lie to yourself
I'd be more than happy to have this on the NX, as long as they keep some of the things from the previous titles (the island from the 3DS version and the city from the Wii version) and then add some more interesting things to do. Being the mayor was really fun (since you didn't have to do the dumb stuff that Nook always made you do in the beginning), but, like with all of them, after a year of playing it, it felt old and you didn't feel like coming back to it that much. With the NX or even the Wii U, they can keep on adding new DLC to keep you coming back into play...it would be really nice to add a Mushroom House to the village and have a character that looks like Mario walking around...or even Link! That would be the Animal Crossing that I would dream, and I can't wait until they actually start to show off the NX, what it can do, and what games they have planned for it. For some odd reason, I'm more hyped for the NX than I was for the Wii U, and I don't know why!
I'd love to see his ideas for Ice Climbers! And I really think he needs to go into the nintendo offices and design the next Animal Crossing!!!
This is an outstanding effort by TheBitBlock!
Looks absolutely professional, wow.
@Nik-Davies RIP another student fatal car crash.
Well, may as well fire the entire current AC team and hire this guy with programming and management support. This is getting rediculous, every fan project like this just digs the Wii U further into it's grave site. It's no wonder it only has 10 million sales, because they apparantly can't match fan efforts now.
Sadly, if we were to get a Wii U Animal Crossing at this point, it would probably just be a port of New Leaf just as City Folk was to Wild World. Just a few new, interesting ideas tacked on to the game we already bought a few years ago.
If they want a console AC to sell, they need to build it from the ground up!
What a missed opportunity for Nintendo. They finally have a console with some a** to it and they completely skip Metroid on it as well as give us a gimp'd AC game. If I had known Wii U wasn't getting these titles, I would have got a PS4 instead, or completely ignored this gen. Oh well, at least there's XCX.
As much as I dislike Josh Thomas, the ideas are very nice and displayed beautifully, I'd happily buy this game
@aaronsullivan This thread seems slow enough for some pics.
Sign-in board.
Candle lighting display.
@rjejr
Nice! The colors work great with the candles.
What a dad!
@aaronsullivan General Dollar or Family Dollar for the candles, $1 each. They now adorn our trophy shelf, had the right amount for 1 between each trophy. SSB worked well as a theme I must say.
Looks really impressive.
When I saw those soccer nets, you gave me great idea, BEING ABLE TO PLAY SPORTS IN ANIMAL CROSSING. Jock villagers will ask you if you want to play them often, compared to other villagers and you can practice on your own if you are not playing anyone. Every villager will also have different skills and stuff, so jocks would be the best. Please Nintendo, that would be so cool!
