Bandai Namco has confirmed that Pokkén Tournament has shipped one million units globally - no mean feat for a Wii U game.
The fighting title - which is best described as a crossover between Tekken and Pokémon - launched in arcades before coming to Nintendo's home console, and has secured a sizeable audience which should hopefully ensure we see a sequel in some form or another.
Are you still playing this 'mon-packed brawler or do you plan to pick it up soon? Let us know with a comment below.

I remember it outdid SFV pretty fast, don't know if that's still true or if it ever was, probably wasn't.
If this had released at the same time as Pokémon Go took off then the Wii U might have gotten a bit more love
If it comes to Nintendo Selects I will buy it.
Could never justify the full price for this game.
Looks like a good beat em up, baring in mind there is a lot better out there.
@Madder128 Fighting game, not beat em up. Though a Pokémon Beat Em Up....that'd actually be cool.
Bought it at launch, still haven't played it yet. But my nephew played it, he's 7,and he loves it and wants a copy for Xmas. So there is interest in it, just needs more widespread advertisement,which,wont happen, I know.
Played the demo, but didn't get around to retail as spare time < life. I enjoyed what I played though, and that's a respectable figure no matter what people say.
Still haven't gotten my hands on a copy, hopefully I can fix that soon. Just not sure it could get me away from playing Smash but there's no reason why I can't play two fighters on my Wii U.
Never got Pokkén Tournament. To be honest, Wii U has too many games that I still need to get.
@gcunit To be honest I think any Wii U game released mid-April 2016 or later would've been hit badly by the NX + BotW = March 2017 announcement on 27th April. They made the right decision to release Pokken in mid-March 2016.
@BLPs
Street fighter v went past the 1 million. I think it's at 1.5 million
Great game. Try the demo!
I don't like the game, it's a poor man's Smash Bros. in every way possible. The graphics look nice but everything else is so limited like the character roster, minuscule.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You sure its not a poor man's Super Smash Bros. because its Pokémon focused? We know you very well At least you aren't saying it's not Melee therefore it sucks.
@Ikramali To be expected since SFV isn't on a failure of a console. Not stellar but I doubt the way the game was handled helped matters.
It's an excellent fighting games. Far better then SFV's launch I've got over 950 battles online and still have a 50% win rate. I wish they would expand the roster already.
This a great alternate to smash since Nintendo doesn't have many fighting games.
@Madder128 eh? But this game has sooo much content, especially the single player campaign and story mode, which puts Smash 4 too shame. Was defintely worth paying full price for.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Poor mans Smash Bros? I got more of a Naruto Ninja storm vibe with any 2d fighter. This plays or seems nothing like Smash bros. not even close IMO
Roster is waytyyyyy tooooo small. Haven't bought it.
@liljmoore street fighter had a bad launch but overall is a better fighting game with a top fighting game community
And fwiw I love tekken tag on the Wiiu
I like it more than smash to be frank and I like smash too (I prefer the 3ds smash because my brain is broken)
@gcunit I doubt it. It's on a console most people don't have and don't want.
@liljmoore I've never played Naruto. When it comes to fighters on Wii U we have Smash, Injustice and Tekken. Actually, you know what Pokken Tournament is most like? Steel Rivals.
@Ikramali Oh believe me I know that. (Part of that community) As for better game. That's up for debate really. For me I've enjoyed PF more then SFV.
But that probably cause I didn't play much at launch cause of my characters not being there (Juri, Saruka) and online issues.
Well that is simply perfect!(especially against a small install base)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Steel Rivals? Never heard of it. Oh yeah forgot about those other 2 being on WiiU.
What i hope is that after Pokemon S&M, they will change the main gameplay style in something that looks like this. Turned based style isnt bad but i want a more active gameplay. If they start working on it now me might have it in 3 years time.
Wouldn't it be cool if you have pokemon but then you have to fight like in Pokken but still with the same RPG elements.
For instance a small thing that annoys me in current games is this: Eevee is fast asleep, Charmander uses ember, Eevee avoided. I mean like what the F, He is Nibelsnarfing ASLEEP!!!
Its these uncontrollable stuff within the current turned based style that annoys me.
I hope for a remake of red and blue with trainer Red but then with pokken style fighting and Kanto a bit expanded on (make the cities
bigger, expanded story for team rocket and some gymleaders maybe)
One other thing. speaking of red and blue. Do you also remember that they said that when you bought blue you could play as Gary en then eventually when you bought blue this was not the case at all and you still played as Ash/Red?
@liljmoore Look it up. It's a classic. A classic.........
A very decent fighting game, but with a small roster of characters. Still, I'm having a blast with my son over whose Pokemon is better.
The game is good, but I felt that should have a good story mode and at least 15 more playable pokemon.
If a sequel is ever released I'll probably buy.
@BLPs It's called Pokemon Rumble.
I'm pretty surprised that more characters haven't been added to the roster via amiibo cards. I tried it at a StreetPass event and was useless, so wouldn't be interested myself, but with such a small roster and the Shadow Mewtwo card being out there already, I know a few people who are disappointed that Pokemon amiibo cards haven't materialised.
@Seacliff ...You know I forgot that side series existed. Yeah it does exist. Okay maybe it wasn't such a good idea. Or maybe the execution was wrong. I'm just gonna end up getting flak for this opinion so Ill shut up.
As much as I thought I'd love Pokkén Tournament, I just couldn't really get into it. I played it for two weeks straight after its launch, and just couldn't become a fan of its mechanics. Its concept and visuals are cool, but the fighting engine is just meh.
That coupled with always having Smash on the go meant I didn't touch the game again. I guess my problem is if it ain't Smash, it's trash. Jk, I still love me some classic fighting game styles like SF and MK, but PT just didn't do it for me at all, which is a shame really...
I wish Sawk is included also in Pokken. Too bad, he's a NPC in the game. Btw, I lost my interest about SF IV since PS3 era and lost interest more about SF V, Not by graphical, but by something that i measured by 'Trustable' quality. I see SF V lost their charm, unlike SF II before during SNES era. Just not memorable. I haven't played SF V, just only watch some gameplay from my local game store (my game store owner play SF V). Just only watch a few seconds, i felt Nothing about SF V. I dunno why, maybe just because PS4 label, cut my impression until below than 1%.
But, when i saw Pokken, i was kinda curious and took some informations from Youtube. The gameplay somewhat looks more interesting than SF V, even limited by a Barrier. Maybe because, Nintendo label raised my impression a little bit. Oops.. Sorry for talking too much.
It's $74.99 CAD here, and that's just way too much for a fighting game, I loved the demo, but I'm waiting for the price to come down (hoepfully), also I would love to see more character announcements.
@liljmoore street fighter 4 is still running solid.
I played it when I first got it but not put that many hrs into it. It's a very good game tho.
A good idea but needs to be a more expansive game to tempt me, not just an arcade game on a home console. Or a reduction in price..
Pokken is one of my very few highlights on Wii U.
Love it!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE this game plays nothing like smash brothers. 🤔
@faint That's for sure.
@Ikramali where did you see those numbers. I'm not denying it I just thought it was around 750,000. Do you have a source?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE what I mean is it has noe of the mechanics. It plays more like tekken than smash. Have you played it?
@faint Yes I've played it and I found it boring. Yes it does play more like Tekken. When I compared it to Smash Bros. I meant it's not that great and it is very lacking in content.
@faint eventshub.
I don't like fight'in games much. Is it still fun for a n00b like me, or should I just keep staying away?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it's not even the same kind of fighter. This is more like a Tekken or Virtua Fighter being in 3D. Smash is a 2D fighter. Short of comparing roster sizes and bonuses there is nothing similar about them.
Edit - and I just saw your last comment which makes a lot more sense.
fighting games are not for me ... i played it for a week then stopped, but i still go back on lets say 2 times a month
@Ikramali I see. I wasn't counting pc numbers just ps4
@Mogster There was a couple of reasons really.
The first was the price, as I wanted it with the Hori pad, so that was looking at £59.99 at the cheapest.
As much as I liked the footage, I thought it looked fun but a bit linear and repetitive.
Also I like the Pokemon series, but can't claim to be it's biggest fan, so it went to the back of the list that month.
Seem to recall buying something for the Xbox One instead that month.
Would happily pay £19.99 for it.
How have you found it ?
love this game, but it is in definite need of an update. Roster size needs to increase for sure. I was hoping they would gradually expand upon the base game like what was done with Splatoon but that has yet to happen.
@BLPs Let's hope Nintendo are listening.
We want Pokemon Streets Of Rage.
@Madder128 Wish I could say Nintendo is the one to make that a reality but they aren't sadly. Get on TPCi's case.
@televisions Yeah Tekken's great. One of those games I just put on every now and then for a quick tearup and it was an absolute bargain in the eshop.
And I haven't played this in months, for shame.
Amazing game, I was really surprised by how good it is. I enjoyed it much more than ultra arcade Street Fighter 4 or whatever the last version was called.
@Sanangelo89 So Eevee must've used Sand Attack. It's a legitimate strategy (although many online communities use evasion clauses). Your suggestion would change the core gameplay too much from battles being about strategy to being about reflexes and hand-eye coordination.
I got the game at launch and really love it. It's a Pokémon-based fighting game that's balanced and competitive but doesn't require you to learn highly advanced techniques or to memorize wacky special move inputs or long combo lists that require very strict timing.
Hate Pokemon but loved the demo of Pokken so will eventually pick it up sooner rather than later now before its impossible to find. Nearly bought it in GAME 2 days ago but £45 was too much. I've been waiting for it to drop to £30 but it's not looking likely, so I will cave and buy it online for £40
@gcunit um, Pokémon Go came out like 3 months ago. Wii U's fate was sealed like 2 years ago.
@Grumblevolcano I can see the business sense in releasing pre-NX announcement for March 2017, but in hindsight, Pokémon Go has had such a massive impact, that they could have hyped Pokken off the back of it, and could well have sold a few more Wii U, bundling the game, for example. I think Pokémon Go hype would easily counter any lost custom due to NX.
@gatorboi352 I think you've misunderstood me. I think a few more people would have bought a Wii U to play Pokken if they'd have known about the game. I'm not aware of any coverage or publicity that Pokken has had since Go went massive.
But I wasn't trying to suggest it would have 'saved' the Wii U. Nintendo cut the Wii U adrift too long ago for that to have been even remotely possible.
@FragRed Nintendo believes (or said it believes) that games sell hardware, and that mobile games can be used to get more people familiar with Nintendo IP and draw them in to to buying Nintendo hardware.
Pokémon Go has unquestionably revived Pokémon as a franchise among the general public, and sales of the 3DS and Pokémon games have increased, but Nintendo hasn't really exploited that through any particular campaigns, other than the Sun/Moon publicity, and certainly not in terms of Pokken on Wii U so far as I have seen.
@gcunit Why are you using my name?
@GregoryClarke10 Probably for the same reason that the only two comments made under your account have been questions directed at me.
@gcunit I don't know that means I was just wondering mate
@gcunit Why are you ignoring me mate?
