Bayonetta 2 may once have been a Wii U exclusive, but all of that is about to change with the unsurprising re-release of this excellent game on Nintendo's latest machine. It's still sporting a 720p resolution just as the original did, but various little details here and there have been improved to make it shine brighter than ever, and more importantly, keep that frame rate nice and high.
Check out the video above to see the two versions go head-to-head, and let us know whether you'll be grabbing this when it comes to Switch.

A bit disappointed it's still 720p on the dock, considering how other Wii U ports have seen significant performance upgrades. Then again, it'll be worth it if the framerate does a better job of staying around 60fps.
Has the Wii U version always looked that washed out? I don't remember it looking like that on my TV.
Literally just more saturated colors.
Bolder colors aside (which can be adjusted with TV settings), I really can’t see a significant difference.
Nah, I'll just stick to the Wii U version, which I still have to finish.
Well obviously the graphics looks less washed out on the switch. everything else on my toad eyes looks the same.
720p? Whack
I have never played either of these games and cannot wait to try 1 & 2 out this month. Already preordered!!
The contrast is too high on the Switch. Some filter added in post-processing?
As a photographer, I actually prefer the Wii U version.
Agreed with the above, not much reason to upgrade for Wii U owners. It's not the kind of game I'd be playing on the go either. I prefer action games on the big screen.
Nope, I still have my physical copies of Bayo 1 and 2 for Wii U,
@Ralizah
Things like contrast/color/brightness will change drastically depending on the monitor/TV settings.
If both captures are unaltered, with the same capture settings, then it appears that the Switch version has a higher contrast value... which could actually look terrible on a TV that is properly calibrated.
Well that's disappointing. Switch version should be better but the colors look off.
@Switchcraft
Exactly, without a "frame of reference", it is really impossible to know which version is "better".
But I'd be willing to bet that when played on my TV, with my settings, the WiiU version is preferable to me... and the Switch version will have way too much contrast.
Instant purchase for me as I don't want to play on the Wii U anymore.
To be honest, the only benefit the Switch version brings to the table is the improved load times.
Everything else seems to be the same.
No 1080p in docked mode? Meh.
@holygeez03 I went and watched a different gameplay clip of Bayo 2 on the Wii U and it looks just as vibrant as the Switch gameplay in this video.
Looks like someone needs to adjust their tv settings. Also, a bit pointless comparing a bunch of cut-scenes, I’d rather watch actual gameplay (which is only at the end of the video)
I might cry and complain about this, but it’s only a game.
Main thing I care about is that it hits 60 fps a lot more than the Wii U version did. A locked 60 fps would be great.
I think their is a big problem in this comparision, a very common one : ALL Wii U games had washed out colors if you didn't change one option on your TV : the Full RGB/Range one. Because the Wii U only supported Limited range.
If you changed your setting on TV to "Limited range", the colors were again vivid, full of contrast and blacks were black again.
The Switch doesn't need this change of setting on your TV.
I've played Bayonetta 2 for hours on Wii U and I never had washed out colors. So I guess the journalist who did this comparision simply didn't knew about that and forgot to change the color setting.

Nope not picking this rushed port up. Maybe if they upped the amiibo support some more I might but for now this port is just a pure and utter rush job just to squeeze a few extra pennies out of dumb sheeple who don't know any better.
Both looked and look great
I actually has issues with the first game on the Switch continuously disconnecting from the Wii U gamepad, and so i never finished it.
I don't know of I want to get it again though.
Please be more specific... is it playing at 720p in docked mode only or in docked AND handheld mode? If it plays at 720p60 in handheld mode, I'll jump all over this.
@Racthet916 720p docked. Not sure if it is locked at 720p on handheld. XBC 2 is 720p docked and on handheld, it would dip to about 400-500.
@IceClimbers @Racthet916 @cowntsikin
http://nintendoenthusiast.com/blog/2017/12/12/bayonetta-1-2-run-720p-60fps-handheld-docked/
720p 60fps in both modes.
As long as it's an excellent game, I wouldn't care if the graphics looked 8-bit. I never played it (since I didn't own a Wii U or those...other consoles) so I'll be picking this up.
Not worth a second purchase, Maybe if I see it in a cheap budget bin someday I may make an impulse buy.
These Nintendo re-release games are for all the Switch owners who deserted Nintendo after the Wii was replaced by the Wii u and are now back.
That's fine but what about us loyal Nintendo gamers. Where are the new PS4 and xbox releases, should some of them have a Switch release as well and not just porting old games at a high price.
I think a lot of indi games are taking advantage of the Switch to port cheap mobile and other games at stupid price.
@smashboy2000
Agreed... the video for this article is NOT a valid comparison.
The capture settings for WiiU are likely incorrect.
@Deadlyblack
As smashboy2000 stated... it is very likely that the video settings for the WiiU capture are incorrect.
At least NintendoLife appears to be wrong in a way that makes the Switch version look "better" so we don't have people crying "OMG it looks worse!".
@zool ARMS, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Super Mario Odyssey, DOOM, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Kirby Star Allies, Mario Tennis Aces, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Mega Man 11, Bayonetta 3, and Metroid Prime 4. Are these enough for "loyal" fans?
One of the few Wii u games I never got round to getting so will pick it up for the switch for the right price.
Was the resolution mentioned yet? That 720p vs 1095p will make or brake this game. Resolution is vital to story. And we all know that a game on the Wii U will be a hard sell on the Switch due to the proliferation of the Wii U. 720p = Bad. 1440 and above = better games. No bad resolutions please.
@Timsworld
"just to squeeze a few extra pennies out of dumb sheeple who don't know any better"
Or you know, people who haven't played it before. Too obvious I guess.
@NinNin Apart from Kirby can you supply the release dates. I'm waiting to play Dragon Quest (not warriors)?
Not everyone likes every game. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Zelda. I've played them.
Not interested in Splatoon or Arms. Doom is an old port. Skyrim a six year old port at a price that is higher than Zelda was.
Kirby in March and Yoshi in June with a lot of gaps and me with money to spend and nothing right now to spend it on. 🙄
Kinda stupid that Nintendo didn't make a physical version of Bayonetta 1 & 2 on Switch. I would had bought it again if it's on a cartridge.
@retro_player_22 You mean the original Bayonetta? Bayo 2 has a physical version.
Nice. I've never played any Bayonetta game, but from what I've seen and heard I think I'll like it quite a bit.
For switch owners who haven't played this game.
This is great
For switch owners who haven't played this game but own the Wii u.
This is great. If your interested you can pick this up for more than half the price.
For Wii u owners only.
This is great if you've already played this and own it. You can start a new save file.
I'm gonna copy and paste when tropical freeze comes out.
I like the contrast in the Switch version. Buying this day one. Never finished either on Wii U.
Not a huge improvement, will stick with my WiiU version. That being said, if Bayo 1 was on a cart as well I would double dip.
As all above stated, the video output on the WiiU version is incorrectly trying to use full range RGB. This video doesn't represent the actual appearance of WiiU games so the comparison isn't really helpful.
If it doesn't dip to 15fps often though it's still worth it on Switch! Those frame drops on WiiU were a killer.
OTOH, I still blame this game for ruining my right analog on my Gamepad, so my Joycons aren't allowed to touch this.
A game like this needs a silky smooth framerate so it was a smart decision to sacrifice resolution for framerate. Even with the same 720p res you can still see some slight improvements over the wii u version
Never played either game. Looking forward to trying it out. Don't see much difference between Switch and Wii U version.
I have the Wii U version but was unable to finish it due to time. I will pick it up on Switch (actually I've already pre-loaded) so that i can play it on the train.
@zool
"That's fine but what about us loyal Nintendo gamers"
Nintendo have put out 7 new games in 11 months (8 if you count Flip Wars) since Switch launched with another due in March, plus the collaboration on Mario V Rabbids and Zelda getting a simultaneous release with Wii U. They've put out 2 Wii U ports (plus Zelda) with another due in February and another in May, which don't come at the expense of new releases because they don't take the same amount of work. I'm not sure how much more you're expecting but there is nobody else in gaming who could match that release schedule.
"Where are the new PS4 and xbox releases, should some of them have a Switch release as well and not just porting old games at a high price."
They're on PS4 and Xbox. Nintendo could maybe do more to get third-party support, who knows. However they're up against the history of third-party games flunking on Nintendo systems, even when like several multiplats on Wii U they're same date releases.
Whats this, an Alex Olney video that isn't clickbait or provocative ? Has hell frozen over? :shock
Glad this has improved visuals, although still own the Wii U Limited Edition (brand new), so might be passing.
"Climax for your console"
...I do not approve of this phrase.
@Bondi_Surfer It's literally the raw signal from the HDMI out. Both were captured one after another with no settings altered.
Why are people saying, "sticking to my Wii U," when it doesn't really make much sense to buy two of the same game in the first place especially on basically the same hardware? Some people are saying it's more contrast, but honestly it looks more like more saturation. I think this is a perfectly fine port considering the lack of Wii U owners and people who simply missed Bayo 1 on the other consoles. Luckily this port seems to be the same if not better to the Wii U, so there's no advantage to having the original over the Switch. I think I'll eventually get this game, but just not right now.
@Kiolu100 Huh that's strange I was inputting Bayonetta 1 & 2 but only 2 show up.
Is it me or does it feel like the WiiU is more powerful than Switch lol
@zool Yes, not everyone likes every game, otherwise every game will sell 70 million copies. The point is that Nintendo released and plans to release many games. Several big third-party games are coming. I don't know what you expect. The release date of the new Yoshi game hasn't been confirmed, by the way.
@NinNin I read June for Yoshi. But of course it could be a Christmas release leaving a gap to fill in the summer.
Have only played Bayonetta 1 on Xbox 360 but didn't finish and it was a long time ago, so I'll definitely be getting this now.
Can't wait to play it
Already bought and predownloaded. This will be the third console that I bought Bayonetta 1 on. 👍
Odd question, but does anyone know what the icons for Bayo 1+2 look like?
Oh no it's not 1080p...darn it. I was really hoping it was at least 2K and with remaster of a everything. Not worth because I have the wii u version...I'm just kidding and really I don't care. Just as long as it runs good because I really like bayonetta games.
Difference looks nominal other than some parts looking less “washed out”. The game already looked great though and was in HD, don’t see a need for making the graphics any “better”, this is better just to bring more players to the series and a portable version for fans that want it.
@Deadlyblack And actual portability, can't forget that.
@zool you complain there’s not enough new content for the Switch then upon people listing games, dismiss them as you don’t like all of them. Well, obviously nobody does, but the fact remains that we have more exclusives in the Switch’s first year than most systems. They can’t cater to you specifically to make sure they have a new game every month that YOU like, if you’re pickier on types of games then you should probably go mulitplat or get a gaming PC; the first year for every system is slow and this has been pretty good for a first year. Yes, we don’t have many announced games for this year, but think about this: at the start of 2017 we had a single confirmed Switch game (Breath of the Wild) with the knowledge of a few more likely candidates based on the original Switch reveal from November 2016. Almost every Switch game in the first year was announced and then released within the same year. Clearly Nintendo has switched up their strategy and is not announcing many games years ahead of time these days. This year is likely bringing us Metroid, Kirby, Yoshi, and Pokémon, and (for those that missed the Wii U, which is a lot of people) Donkey Kong. And there’s certain to be more games announced that will come this year. If you don’t like all the games announced, you don’t like them, but that doesn’t change the fact that Switch had a strong first year and, if it follows the same announcement pattern, has just as much possibility for a strong second year. Nintendo is pumping out all their main IPs pretty quickly, so I’d say they’re paying attention to their loyal fans.
@electrolite77 "They're on PS4 and Xbox. Nintendo could maybe do more to get third-party support, who knows. However they're up against the history of third-party games flunking on Nintendo systems, even when like several multiplats on Wii U they're same date releases."
And yet, now more than ever, people flock to Nintendo to sell the first portable version of their games. Those caught unaware by it's success are now playing catch-up and will be reaping the benefits this year or later.
Just takes some time, but everyone wants a slice of that portability pie, the all important Nr.1 saving grace and herald of all that is and forever shall be gaming.
Loading is alot better, coloring is a bit more refined compared to Wii U, I don't see why people are not up for the tiny upgrades the port has. Yeah having it on 720 resolution is still a bummer but it seems like a bare minimum standard for games nowadays
@yeayeanaynay you know what I mean lol why are old port not further improved?
@holygeez03 Wii U only supports Limited RGB range, while Switch supports Full RGB range. I think that's the reason Switch version has better colors (well, in my opinion at least).
@CptProtonX Resolution has NOTHING to do with a game being good or not.
We all hoped it would be 1080 docked but, honestly, I don’t care if it’s just 720p. That’s good enough and with a constant 60fps it’ll make gameplay better smooth.
This port wasn’t made for the people who already own it on WiiU, it was obviously geared to the millions who didn’t bought a WiiU.
I’ve never played a Bayonetta game before and I’m extremely happy I’ll finally be able to, even with “just” 720p resolution.
Bumping up the resolution to 1080p would definitely cause a major hit to the performance.
Played the games when it was on Wii U, but never owned them, so I used friend's copy instead. But finally I can get them on my hands with the Switch versions.
I'll buy. Never played either before & if it's as good as most say, & I'm sure it is, I'll be looking forward to #3 later this year. Not many AAA games on the slate yet this year, may be playing this for awhile.
Wont get this as its great on Wii U, Bayo 3 will be day one thou
Colors look much better on the Switch version. Maybe it's simply because of that, but I feel like I can see more detail in the cutscenes now. I didn't play these on the Wii U but heard great things about them. So I already pre-ordered them for Switch.
@KoopaTheGamer
That's not how it works...
I am now convinced that NLife has completely fugged the RGB settings on the WiiU capture... GameXplain posted a comparison video that was done correctly and the two versions are indiscernible with regard to color/contrast.
@AlexOlney "Both were captured one after another with no settings altered."
You may have just confirmed the issue... the settings likely need to be changed if the Switch is outputting "Full RGB" and the WiiU is outputting "Limited RGB"... It definitely appears that you captured a Limted RGB source with a Full RGB capture setting on the WiiU recording.
If this is indeed the case... and I'm pretty sure it is... then you are publishing some very bad information with your comparison.
Wow! What can I say? You're not on the pulse anymore that's for sure. There's been comparison videos for at least a week on this game and its predecessor. I think what sets this site apart, however, is the community, the activity, the honesty and the moderation. It does look better on Switch going by previous videos I've viewed.
Why has almost everyone started doing these kinds of comparison and/or old-new videos back-to-front?
Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of basic design/formatting/art/layout/direction of time/etc knows that the old/past goes on the left and the new/present/future goes on the right. You're all doing it the wrong way around--we aren't frikin' Japanese people reading back-to-front or whatever. For westerners, time and the forward motion of time goes from left to right--so you should put the older footage on the left and the current/new footage on the right and then people don't have to always do a double check just so they know which is which. How are so many apparent professionals completely ignorant of this most basic concept in formatting?
I mean just imagine if I presented a timeline for Nintendo's handhelds and instead of doing it like this:
I did it from right to left. . . .
You would instantly know it was wrong because it's heading in the wrong direction--time would look like it was moving backwards, the older machines would initially seem to be the newer machines. It makes everything less intuitive and natural than it should be, for no good reason whatsoever.
Why is everyone making the comparison and/or old-new videos apparently blind to this pretty much universal notion of time moving in a direction from left to right?
Looking good, might have to get it, though I wish the CE came with an artbook, this game's graphical design screams for it.
Though, there's something weird if both docked and handheld modes have the same framerate and resolution, with the docked mode having 4x the GPU clocks. Maybe something else changes, like detail settings, additional effects, etc.
Cya
Raziel-chan
Well that is disappointing - basically they just doinf a straight port. They should do a PC version like B1.
OOOO! i'm getting Japanese Climax edition - Physical B1 Cartridge for me!
720p for a Wii U remaster? No thanks.
Anything below 1080p looks like a blob of pixels on my 4k 40 inch TV, even with the sharpness at 0. I'll skip this one. Hopefully with Bayonetta 3 we'll get 1080p support.
From what I understand, B2 utilizes a LOT of transparency effects that can cover the entire screen. Such large-screen effects eat away at RAM bandwidth because it has to constantly manipulate the buffers. On Wii U, the buffers generally were held in eDRAM, which was capable of 500GB/s+ bandwidth (but there was only 32MB of it). Switch's RAM is only capable of 25GB/s, yet that's still greater than Wii U's main DDR3 RAM that operated at around half that. So, Wii U could do somethings better in a few aspects, but only if it weren't limited by the rest of the process. Switch is certainly capable of processing a LOT more when it doesn't have to keep referencing RAM, but this scenario with B2 is limited by RAM bandwidth.
If Switch had 32MB of eDRAM like the Wii U or even some special small section of RAM that doubled/tripled up on bandwidth, then we would be seeing a LOT more 1080p@60fps games.
Having said that, there are games like Fast RMX which made an incredible jump from FRN on Wii U at 640x720@60fps with consistent dips in single player to a full 1080p@60fps with no dips in single player, making at least a 4x jump in buffer writing, and FRN had a decent number of post-process effects that were handle all on the Wii U's eDRAM that Switch is doing with its main RAM. Both were by Shin'en who push the crap out of the hardware when they can, and to finally add, Shin'en themselves said that they could get even more from the Switch had they not been dealing with a port, so they're expecting a lot more with whatever game they make exclusively for Switch.
Looks better on Wii U tbh
@zool
I'm in the same boat as you.
I supported Wii U (over 60 physical games), I believed in their vision and played my Wii U to death.
MK8 didn't interest me one bit as I put in so many hours into the original, so too with Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 1&2, Pokken Tournament, Lego City and Rayman Legends so going back to them, some literally only months ago, isn't something I wish to do.
What does that leave me?
I bought my Switch at launch with Zelda ( a game I also have on Wii U) and played Zelda to death.
In the meantime I had Splatoon 2, (which tbh, feels like a backward step after playing it on Wii U with the touch screen), so after trying the free Splatfest I had no interest in it since it was more of the same but with less.
Then I bought Rabbids, which is one of my favourite games on Switch, after that?
FE Warriors.
Nope, don't like FE games.
Xenoblade 2.
Yep but what would you know my Switch is a lemon so I have to send it in for repairs.
So I put off buying it until my Switch returned.
It did, still faulty.
In the meantime Odyssey came out, I bought that, my kids and I love it but I had to send my Switch back for the 2nd time.
I still don't have it back yet.
So after supporting Nintendo through their worst console cycle ever I fully know how you feel.
Disappointed.
This is why I buy everything on sale
I think the switch is like a "Wii U pro" in terms of graphics.
I've never seen a comparison video where I can tell the difference.
@frogopus
I'm sure Spla2oon is great, just not for me.
I agree, 2018 is a bit of a worry atm, I'm sure there will be some hidden gems in there from Nintendo but I wish they would give me a reason to get excited, if I had a working Switch.
My poor Wii U, all it’s amazing games are getting ported to Switch! Glad others will get to enjoy them though 😁
Everyone keeps talking about the 2nd one, what about the first game?
Looks much better on the switch, i will double dip, my wiiU is already buried.
Please bear in mind this isn't a remaster, it's a direct port, so there's going to be very little difference between the two. Not sure why a lot of sites are doing graphical comparison videos to be honest, it's probably frame rate you want to be looking at.
@Timsworld not everyone bought the WiiU. It makes sense to bring good games over to a successful console.
Also I love how Nintendo fans, particularly, are complaining about it not being 1080p.
So its the same then. The switch version has darker assets but i think that's due to contrast alteration. This is pretty poor. Great idea for a re-release, bad idea to do nothing with it.
@Cosmos14 While I agree that bringing games over to the Switch is a good idea if also appreciate it if they'd actually put some more stuff into them to make those games more unique rather then just ports with 1 or 2 new things thrown in here and there.
@AlexOlney The settings do in fact need to be changed though for a proper comparison to take place. The Wii U only outputs Limited Range RGB (16-235) which is actually the standard for TVs and video content, where as the Switch has the option to enable Full Range RGB (0-255) which is the standard for computers and their displays.
Full Range allows for a slight improvement in gradations of color but otherwise should look identical if the screen is properly calibrated.Or In this case the capture card is setup to properly match each standard.
I’m almost certain there’s a toggle in whatever software you use to capture the footage for this exact setting. Otherwise you could just set the Switch to output Limited Range to match the Wii U and then proceed to capture without having to worry about matching levels.
This may actually be more urgent but I seem to recall a couple of instances in reviews for certain Switch rereleases (Zelda?) where you guys reference the Switch’s ability to output a punchier more vibrant image compared to the Wii U.
I’d be curious to know if that is actually a result of your displays not being properly calibrated for Black at 0 versus 15 on the 0-255 scale. What it called to mind is something called black crush which can sometimes look nice and vibrant but can also destroy shadow detail in an image.
As you guys are sort of a place of record when it comes to these games, I think it would be worth looking further into this issue to determine whether any of the reviews need to be amended to eliminate any misleading information - admittedly stemming from a misunderstanding of some pretty technical video standards that in a better world would not exist to make our lives so needlessly difficult.
Honestly, I couldn't care less about this comparison since I don't have the wiiu version, but I can understand the disappointment of those who play docked most of the time.
Handheld mode is what I bought my switch for, and being able to play both bayo on the go in HD is simply great.
@Discostew thanks for this post. explains why it's not simple to just bump up the resolution to 1080p. Performance is more important here.
@kobashi100 Your welcome. There is one other thing though that could possible explain why there isn't a bump in resolution that I either missed or was never mentioned in any articles about the ports. Who is handling the ports? Platinum Games (the original developers), or is it outsourced? This can be important because we all know what happened with the PS3 port of Bayonetta. With these ports from Wii U, having a rather unique architecture and component design, an outsourced porting team may find it a little hard.
Graphics seem altered rather than enhanced. Is this because they can't be improved or because its a lazy full priced port?
@zool
It's likely they could be improved, but it doesn't make it a lazy port that they don't.
A lazy port would likely have run considerably worse than the original, given the difference in architecture.
@MFD
Yes some people will buy it for the portability. Quite why that upsets you so much is beyond me, but it's true.
DF video
https://youtu.be/B_dOIAfVHxo
@electrolite77 I've explained you that many a times, but if anything it's because there should be more to Switch than that, but I can't fault people for not talking about the other part, since it isn't anything worth mentioning, which then leads me to wonder: Why does it even exist?
Wow, that was anti-climatic - Feast your eyes..... on this famine of changes.
Am I alone in actually preferring the Wii U version?
@Pod OK I understand, but for the gamer that would consider a purchase to replay the Wii u games, extra content or a lower price for a port would make this less like a cash grab.
"and more importantly, keep that frame rate nice and high".
The frame rate still is 40-60.
@Discostew wins another thread.
@BlueOcean Didn't you know? If it's even slightly above 30 FPS most of the time, even if it can't consistently stay at 60 FPS, it's considered "high" by modern console standards.
Why no 1080p docked? At least improve that... MK8D improved with 1080p 60 for 4 players which the Wii U failed to achieve (in the same mode). So why can't Bayonetta manage it?
@PlywoodStick To be honest I prefer a locked 30 fps with good frame pacing than this 40-60 continuous fluctuation.
@eSocrates @AlexOlney
Yes... that's what I said.
A lot of people are going to see that comparison video and expect some huge improvement in color/contrast on their Switch version... only to be very disappointed when it looks completely identical to their WiiU version (assuming the user has the correct RGB settings).
If the Switch versions of Bayo 1 & 2 run at a solid 720/60 in docked and handheld mode, that is fine considering it is a port of a last gen game, and a port of a port from two generations ago.
Switch owners that never owned a WiiU should just be happy they get a chance to play them... plus they are now handheld.
Bayonetta 3 should really strive for 1080/60 considering it's 2018... my guess is it will be 900/60, but whatever... as long as the game is good.
@BlueOcean Consistent frame times with a low cap are certainly preferable to wildly fluctuating frame times with somewhat higher values... Assuming the NS version can definitely handle a consistent 30 FPS cap at all times. The Wii U version certainly couldn't, and it remains to be seen if the NS version can.
As for me... I prefer 1080p/60 FPS with consistent frame times and better anti-aliasing on Cemu. (Well, it can run 2160p on Cemu, but I don't have a 2160p monitor, so...) Lack of anti-aliasing on the big screen is jarring, so that's the most significant part in my eyes. Just another example of the console specs not being able to handle it. We'll see with the NS version... In the meantime, here's a Wii U vs PC comparison! It's much more noticeable than Wii U vs NS:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkQRDH1Dimg
I don't own the game myself yet, so I'll probably pick it up eventually.
@electrolite77 Bayonetta 1 can be played on pretty much everything nowadays so.
@Timsworld
Yes, apart from PS4, but Bayonetta 2 can't.
@MFD
I use both parts, as do most Switch owners from what data is available.
http://nintendoenthusiast.com/blog/2017/10/31/survey-switch-users-playing-docked-portable-mode/
@electrolite77 True, but like a friend of mine said on Discord, in regards to DOOM on Switch "so it looks little bit better at handheld mode but probably has more fps issues "We can't stress enough how impressive this looks as a mobile shooter " and that is again big problem with switch games are good for handheld but not for home console"
Sure, portability is the main feature as that what sells it, but is it wrong to want more from docked?
Monster Hunter World is keeping me from playing my Switch and the sole reason I've kept my ps4,it's a fantastic game. I don't think Nintendo have anything that will prise me away from it that they've announced thus far for this year. Dark Souls maybe, depending on how it compares to the ps4 version,all the ports I've got and played on WiiU. The point being Nintendo need to get their finger out because for me, the momentum for the Switch is starting to wane fast
@AlexOlney fake news
I honestly don't get why the Wii U porting bothers people so much. I'm personally glad for it. Giving great games a chance to be played on a console that's clearly more appealing than its predecessor (which it already outsold) has no downsides.
I have Bayo 1 and 2 on Wii U. I want to give the Switch version a rental at least to play it on the go, and I may even just go ahead and double dip the purchase because I enjoy the game. It'll give me something else thrilling to do (on top of the other Switch games I enjoy) when I'm out of the house and can't get to Monster Hunter World (which is sadly often).
@Ralizah The Wii U only has an RGB range of 16-235, which is different from most modern consoles like the Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 which all can do 0-255.
However, most TVs and capture cards have a setting to account for this, and they will "stretch" the 16-235 values to 0-255. If this setting is active, it shouldn't look washed out. Most TVs do this automatically, and it sounds like yours does too.
Looks like whoever captured this footage misconfigured their capture card settings (or simply left them default), so that quirk of the Wii U shows.
@NinNin I agree with @zool. You are comparing a handful of games, half that aren't even released yet to hundreds of crap shovelware and phone type games. They need to step it up because first party is not all that matters. When comparing 3rd party games, most are a bunch of crap. Quality over quantity and it seems like quantity is winning.
I personally never was interested in Bayonetta. It goes in the category of random Japanese crap and school girl anime's. With all the hype surrounding it I will probably pick it up used or when I can find it for cheaper.
@Yasaal because the performance would have tanked even more.
The switch lack of bandwidth is bottleneck for certain games. Bayonetta 2 is one of them.
People really should watch the DF video and get a technical understanding.
@DEZn00ts Every platform has more bad games than good games. If you expect more good games on any platform, you should change your expectation because it's unrealistic. Anyway, you don't understand Bayonetta at all. Bayonetta is an action game whose protagonist is a witch who fights angels. I wonder where you got that school girl anime idea from. It's ridiculous.
I said IT GOES IN THAT CATEGORY! I'm a HUGE Nintendo fan but I'm tired of the small minded individuals here that don't understand common language. It GOES in that category. It doesn't matter what she is, the cut scenes I have seen that don't involve fighting are always weirdo stuff. Weirdo meaning just like people who watch anime porn.
@MFD
I guess not but, you know, I want lots of things I'm not going to get. As it stands the hybrid nature of the system is popular and the portability factor is popular. If users are opting to buy games on the Switch instead of-or as well as-other systems because of the portability/hybrid nature it shows doing something different to the other two is working.
@DEZn00ts Fighting angels has nothing to do with school girl anime. Try to be civil. You don't need to insult others who disagree with you.
@NinNin I see why people who don't play Nintendo consoles think most of us are imbeciles or kids.
@DEZn00ts Not sure what you are getting at. I don't think most people who don't own Nintendo consoles think that, though. By the way, most gamers own one of Nintendo consoles. The Wii sold more than 101 million units. The DS sold more than 154 million units. The 3DS sold more than 71 million units.
@electrolite77 That it is, portability is a strong reason for selling, but is that the main reason? What of exclusives? And are people really content with this? When I see the Switch, I see handheld brought to the next level, but when I look at the hybrid picture, I see a lacking side that could be so much more.
It is possible to make that more, is it wrong to hope for as much?
@MFD It isn't wrong to want more, but it's a waste of time. The Switch is a hybrid console, so it's weak by nature. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.
@MFD
I think it's selling because of several things. It being Portable/a hybrid is very attractive to some people and increases the value of games on the system to those people. It has a very strong selection of exclusives and a few other big hitters that were only on Wii U and so are exclusives to most people. There's the local multiplayer emphasis. It seems to be priced fairly. It sells to Nintendo fans because it's where Nintendo's games are and will be in the future, and they've never (legally) looked better. It has a large and fast growing library which offers quantity, quality and variety. They've marketed it well.
They've got the basics right, in other words-hardware, software, marketing.
@NinNin That is fair, I suppose it's too much to ask Nintendo to put their backs into both sides equally.
@electrolite77 "It sells to Nintendo fans because it's where Nintendo's games are and will be in the future" Like they ever have a choice. Those are fair points.
@Pod if a game from an old console is ported without improvements then maybe the price should reflect this. If the game has been upgraded and or new content added then maybe the cost is justified.
@kobashi100 Watched it an understood what you meant. A serious bummer. Let's hope if the Switch Pro will happen it fixes this, especially if it has (or should have) the Tegra X2...
@Yasaal MK8D with 3+ players was effectively 1080p @ 30fps, but technically 60fps with alternating render updates on 2 of the 4 views every frame, same as on Wii U.
@zool
One could also argue that if you get the same experience, you should pay the same.
There's not yet a Bayonetta 3, so this is still as current as it gets.
Also, the catridges take a bite out of profits, so it's not like they actually make the same on selling it for the same.
@Pod If the card takes some of the profit then the downloaded version should cost less, since there is no card, packing, delivery or retailer profit. 😀
@link3710 maybe if they worked on it a bit more, they could hav pushed it to 900p docked.
@cowntsikin
Based on Digital Foundry's findings, the docked mode makes the frame rate far more stable, so any bump in resolution would have caused the game to drop frames far more often (like the original). Personally, I'd prefer a mostly stable framerate to higher resolution, though I'm sure some people would argue otherwise.
@zool
I get you, but this is a different discussion altogether.
