Demon Turf, released back in 2021, may have arrived on multiple platforms, but it's one of those games that just belongs on the Switch, right? It's got that 'Nintendo' flair and this was only solidified early in 2022 when the standalone expansion, Demon Turf: Neon Splash, released to rave reviews (including our own!).
Wouldn't it be cool, though, if you could play it on another Nintendo handheld system? Say... maybe the Nintendo DS? Well, you can! As announced by developer Fabraz over on Twitter, you can download a 'demake' of the game for the DS via the Demon Turf Discord server right now.
Shortly after, Fabraz posted a picture of the game running on the 3DS (courtesy of Discord user EmiSocks), proving that yes, it all works, and yes, it looks pretty darn good for a DS game, too!
If you're unable to play the game on the DS, then the OG Switch version will do you just fine. We gave the original game an 8/10 in our review, heaping praise on the platforming controls but criticising the poor combat mechanics. We'd probably recommend you check out the Neon Splash follow-up over the original, if only for its brave decision to ditch the combat entirely for a razor-sharp platforming experience.
Let us know if you plan to download the DS 'demake' of Demon Turf, and what you make of it in the comments below!

I don't want to have to join Discord servers to check out cool downloads. It's really frustrating.
@RupeeClock I know, right? It can't be that hard to also offer a download link on Github or something.
I read this and thought this is cool and nice it’s free. Go to comments and people moaning. Haha. Typical.
If only Nintendo would do something like this so then Hell could freeze over and things might cool down as it is too damn hot!
@Stocksy
Asking people to join your Discord server to get download links, is on the same level of asking people to register to your PhPBB message boards / forums.
There can be any number of caveats like needing to introduce yourself to a community or participate to a certain degree, or sifting through a lot of junk.
Worse yet, link-rot can happen as the original hosted link goes offline, because it was only kept on someone's personal Dropbox or on a file hosting service that went defunct.
Or you could play the ds version on your switch using melon ds homebrew not that you should
@Stocksy Honestly, I ALSO think this is really cool/nice. It's just a shame I won't be able to play it 😔
Does this work on unmodded 3ds? can i just put it on the sd card?
@romanista
You won't be able to just put it on the SD card and have it work.
You'll need to either mod the 3DS so you can load custom software off the SD card, or use a DS flash cart that works on an unmodded 3DS.
Didn't expect this to be picked up by Nintendolife haha! Worth highlighting we didn't make it! It was made by @ermelber / ermii, who I believe also worked on the DS version of Mario Galaxy!
They only ever shared the build on our community discord, I'll ask them if they want to upload it somewhere more permanent & accessable! Cheers!
@RupeeClock thanxm i probably will run it then i on my ds with a flashcard..
@Fabraz Nintendo should be taking notes on how to advertise their IP's with positive attention whenever fan projects are made. You definitely pushed it up a few spots on my wishlist just by appreciating and sharing a fan's appreciation for your work.
@Fabraz
Ah that explains it, respecting the wishes of who originally shared their work.
That's cool though!
That's really cool. Too bad for me that I don't have (and not really looking to) a modded 3ds
@RupeeClock
I can’t believe a business would promote their business!
@RupeeClock I mean it's not that hard.
@Bobb It's pretty easy to do and every version is moddable now. It is time consuming though.
@Jokerwolf That's very interesting, thank you for that. I might look at it someday, lately time has been a rare commodity
The homebrew author Ermelber has since shared the download publicly, which I'm grateful for.
