The latest UK charts are now in and this week has been a slightly quieter one from Nintendo (at least, as far as the top ten is concerned).
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey are the only Nintendo titles to land in the upper portion of the rankings this time, though Mojang's Minecraft Legends continues to sell well on the console, with 78% of purchases coming from the Switch.
Hogwarts Legacy lands in the top spot this time, with last week's champ, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, dropping into second and Dead Island 2 nabbing a podium spot in third.
Elsewhere, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp continues to take a tumble, this time dropping to 31st place after making a strong debut in its opening week. The top ten might not be a Nintendo-fest, but a lot of Switch titles have landed in the teens this time around including the likes of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo Switch Sports and Pokémon Violet.

One more week before you know who takes the crown
@Axecon Bloody hell, I thought the coronation was over 😉
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is going to outlive us all, much like GTA V. It’s just going to constantly sell until the end of universe.
This is why we haven't had a new Mario or MK game, why would they invest in new software when the old ones keep making crazy money.
Any idea on console sales with the new zelda oled being released?
Just a few more days... the wait will end soon.
The fact that New Super Mario Bros U is still in the top 15 yet Mario Maker 2 isn't even in the top 40 is painful
It's worth mentioning that while the top 10 (love to see Odyssey still in there by the way) has less Switch exclusives this week the top forty is dominated by them which is incredible!
And yes, there will be not only Tears of the Kingdom, but also of joy by its players and of sadness by its competition...
@HotGoomba As much as I think there's enough space for both New Super Mario Bros. U and Mario Maker 2 I also wish that the latter sold much more in general and more than the former!
The only reason I can think that Mario Kart 8 is somehow still selling well after so many sales is just the fact that children continue to be born and eventually grow old enough to play it.
@JohnnyMind @HotGoomba Personally if there were somehow 2 Mario platformers every year, I would buy them all. I do agree that it's sad Mario Maker isn't up there in the lifetime or continued sales though. It deserves more popularity.
I dunno a lot of people (myself included) just aren't interested in "making" Mario levels and would just rather play them.
@HotGoomba To be fair, the main selling points of Mario Maker 2 are locked behind NSO and also the online multiplayer doesn't run well. NSMBU Deluxe doesn't have those issues.
Metroid prime Remastered on 39 place. I do not know how much sold this game in the beginning. Mario kart 8 Deluxe unbelievable it is still selling well. Breath of the wild still very good place. Super Mario Odyssey in very good place. Mario kart 8 Deluxe is one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch for me I know but unbelievable it is still selling.
Who is buying Pokémon Sword?
I've already Pre-purchased and have Tears of the Kingdom pre-installed! I'm so ready to play The Game Of The Year 2023!
@Grumblevolcano The main selling point of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also locked behind the NSO paywall. Sure you can play without NSO similarly to how you can play the 100-level story mode and make levels in smm2 without NSO, but neither game is nearly as exciting without NSO.
Somehow Mario Kart sells infinite games even with that extra paywall. Also, apparently 36 million people already have NSO, so a lot of people could play smm2 without paying extra. I wouldn't be surprised if Mario Kart 8 is what caused the majority of NSO subscriptions, so people definitely don't mind that extra minor fee if they want a game enough. smm2 doesn't have good multiplayer, but it does have 10s of thousands of great levels which is infinitely more great Mario content than NSMB U.
@FishyS I disagree, MK8 Deluxe is as much a local multiplayer game as it is an online multiplayer game.
Tears of the Kingdom should put a end to Hogwarts Legacy’s dominance
Hmm, so Hogwarts is back on top because it was just (finally?) released for previous generations (PS4, X1). Looks playable and enjoyable, but is that install base enough to keep it on top? Too bad we won’t ever know since next week every game on the list slides down one position.
@FawfulsFury Hogwart's has seen a bump in advertising activity in the states. I saw one during the NBA playoffs yesterday - which is an expensive ad.
Bayonetta kicking her way unto the top 40 is fun. There is hope for the United Kingdom yet.
I wonder what Nintendo have planned after Zelda (and Pikmin 4 of course.) Switch hardware is enjoying some momentum at the moment looking at the charts. I mean, I'm ready for the next Switch as much as anyone else who bought one day one, but who cares about that!? I'm too hyped for Friday!
@GrailUK good question. I'm curious how the amount of AAA new released games compare to previous gens, like switch already got its Splatoon, (paper) Mario, Metroid, Luigis Mans 3, etc with Zelda and Pkmn on the way
@GrailUK Didn't Mario Galaxy release very late in the Wii's lifespan? Maybe they will send off the Switch with an Odyssey 2. That would be in line with this Zelda dlc.
Price point $120.
@Logicfire
The PS4 and Xbox One do not have small user bases. However a fair few of them have moved on to PS5/Series consoles so the sales bump will not last as long as when it was first released.
The Switch version will probably give the game a bigger bump in July.
Next week I will be astounded if TotK isn't no.1 and by some distance.
@GrailUK Hopefully a new Donkey Kong game. It has been 9 long years since 'New Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze' came out and I would love a third 'New Donkey Kong Country' game or another 3D game similar to 'Donkey Kong 64.' There have been rumours about a new game being in development for a while but it has yet to be officially confirmed. I am hoping we get a 'New Super Mario Bros 3/ Switch' too , 'Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker 2' and a remake of 'Pokemon Gold/Silver/ Crystal.' 😀
It is good to see the ;Spyro Reignited Trilogy' is still in the charts. I hope we get a 'Spyro the Dragon 4.'
@Cashews galaxy 2 was the send off game
TOTK is going straight in at number one. My body is ready.
@FawfulsFury yes, that was the comparison I made. Odyssey 2 might be a perfect send-off. But only if they have an absolute home run blast queued up for the next machine.
I don’t think people realize with Mario maker that the main selling point isn’t really making the levels, which is just one of the problems you’ll have with a level maker. It’s a shame, as it’s one of the better level makers I’ve played, and the community is really dedicated to quality.
So many Nintendo games over 5 years old in the charts. And now they have one of the biggest box office animated movies of all time. What an amazing business.💰 💵
So long as these evergreen games keep selling well, Nintendo has no incentive to lower prices.
@Rainbowfire The thing is that in Mario Maker you don't have to make any level yourself, you can just play the countless, in good part quality ones other users made (I feel that you're not the only one that missed that point as @JakedaArbok said, that's probably the major reason why it's selling worse than NSMBU Deluxe)... as long as you have NSO that is like @Grumblevolcano mentioned (that could also be another reason although I suspect a minor one).
31 Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
Deserved flop.
