Where To Pre-Order Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door On Switch

A more striking HD conversion than LM2. But then I’ve owned the GCN copy for many years but never played it much. I did beat LM2. So what can I say..

It's been and is going to continue to be a very RPG heavy year. I'm not sure this isn't a little too close to Mario RPG.

Preordered my copy the other day from The Game Collection.
Had £10 worth of points to use, so £32.95 wasn't too shabby!

Better than when I was trying to get a GC copy back in 2020-21 to build my GC collection, but it was going for absurd prices around £150-200 due to its rarity!
(Those prices have almost halved now after the Switch version announcement! I guess thanks Nintendo for making the game more widely available again)

I REALLY want that Paper Mario Keychain so I honestly hope it's not exclusive to GAME of all retailers.
Of course their price is the highest.

@NinChocolate : Isn't this a remake though? On the other hand, Luigi's Mansion 2 looks like a glorified port (with some enhanced textures/lighting).

Still too much for a (short) 20 year old game.

In all seriousness, GameCube copies of TTYD have been scalped to the moon and back for years now, so unless you want to pay an exorbitant amount to some random schmuck on eBay or some other site, this is your only way to play the game legally. Besides, this is a full remake of an already amazing game that ultimately still costs less than what used copies of the original go for nowadays. You really have no excuse for not buying this unless you still own a copy of the original and are satisfied with it.

Also, too short? The Thousand-Year Door is a 20-30 hour long RPG, possibly much longer if you're a completionist or a first-time player who wants to savour the experience. It's not exactly a short game unless you're a speedrunner.

I mean all switch games should £39.99 on launch and not £49.99 or even £54.99 (sega)

@Sisilly_G i think I’ve been avoiding the remake vs remaster label as it tends to get argued about for a lot of Nintendo’s graphically updated games

10 quid off ey? Not bad, here in Australia we get 10 bucks off at certain stores… which is like, half 10 pounds.

@NinChocolate : The widespread (mis)use of "remaster" in reference to games annoys me as it's a film/TV term, and games already have an analogous term in "port", and an "enhanced port" is where the guts (code) of the game remain mostly untouched (such as Metroid Prime "Remastered"), but textures and such have been retroactively spruced up.

Plus, Nintendo tend to throw on "HD" to the title when the game is more or less a straight port (as we have previously seen with Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess etc.).

@DDFawfulGuy Nintendo website sell one for £49.99 but you get 3 keyrings with it.

I'm surprised that US doesn't seem to have pre-order bonuses yet, although I do really like this selection of pre-order bonuses so far!

I did it... I preordered it. It was 25% off and there was little point not doing it.

Wow, pre-order sales must be on low side if they already need to push discounts. It's probably to do with all the wet weather we're having and people are worried about their Paper Marios getting soggy, or the effect of humidity like swelling / sticking on old, 1,000 year-old doors.

Until May 6th, Play-Asia is currently running a “Get 3 games for $100” campaign, two of which are Paper Mario TTYD and Endless Ocean. I’m waiting on reviews for EO, but making each of those (+ another game) $33 each is worth the wait in shipping for me.

@Fizza it’s a logical idea though. I mean he’s made of paper and so are stickers. I bet Nintendo could integrate them into the gameplay somehow. Someone should suggest it…

I was conflicted about getting it if it was mainly a graphical overhaul, plus I find the halved frame rate a wee bit jarring... but the original is one of my favourite games ever and for £37 I'll give it a go.

I preordered for the slip cover from GameStop Canada. I usually dont do preorders, as they tend to arrive well after the release day, but I just had to make a gamestop account for my beloved

Not remotely worth it when you can easily emulate the gamecube version

Enhanced graphics are cool but hardly worth a £40+ premium

@InnerSound That's all well and good but how do people who only have a Switch do that though? Download an illegal copy, splash out and buy a PC or a Deckbeard? What if they want to experience this new take on it on the Switch?

@EVIL-C ugh 😩 I wish GameStop US offered the Gamecube slipcover preorder bonus. Has to be one of my favorite preorder ideas in a very long time. Also wish GameStop Canada shipped to the US…or some swell person across the border would be willing to help me out 😃

It's not a scarce game. It did go Player's Choice so you could buy it new for a couple years after release (until Nintendo stopping production on GameCube stuff after the Wii launch).
Wow, in 2020 I didn't even pay that much for a Japanese copy (which, despite what people say usually say, was one of those games which is MORE expensive than the US version), for some reasons.

I pre-ordered from My Nintendo Store. This is also my first pre-order there. I am looking forward to the Mario key ring. Hopefully everything goes well and everyone gets their games in time.
